.Reflection 

    I stand in front of so many people and make something wrong…

  This sentence is still in my brain…

  Well, I concluded two bad things I made, and still two good things I made. The first bad thing, is a make an wrong example, this must confuse the students and let them have a tough time to finish their assignment. I said the civil war is a war that America fight for freedom and they got their land back from the British people…. Actually, it is the war of independence. This may confuse them and make them do not understand the topic………

  Second bad thing is I am too nervous talking something in a limited time. For I have only 1 minute, my tongue was going to wrap itself up like present boxes when I start speaking… then I got so nervous and forgot to give the students time to write down the note copies… Thus they look so angry makes me feel like “hey do not rub my handout answer!!!”

  The first good thing I made was made simple slide that show the idea pretty clear. Therefore makes the handout look easy by just filling 4 blank. I feel little pity that I did not make self-determination related to decolonization. For it would be easy to understand if I did so.

  The second good thing I made was having the picture of the statue liberty. I know I make a mistake explaining self-determination, but I still have a picture to tell them some information about self-determination. Also, introducing the basic topic about what we were presenting made me little nervous, thus I could find out, I am not practicing well…

  From the presentation, I learned lots of things such as prepared well before a presentation, do not ever, ever, make a mistake and do not be nervous!!!

Jenny, don't worry about making mistakes! That's how we learn :) You had a tough job because you didn't have any time left. Better next time, yes? 


Ms. Ku

 

 Although I don’t join our group to have the ppt teaching to grade 9A or grade 10 student. But I also
have some experience to my ppt and my homework making.
 
 First, from my ppt. I think it is a good way to show of the student what our class mainly talks about
through the ppt making. But I also have so many words. And I learn when we make
a class teaching. We shouldn’t read our ppt. we should have our own paper to
teach and we should only put some basic and important thing in our ppt and our
paper. Not all the thing we will talk about.
 
Secondly, from the homework. I learn we shouldn’t only copy the note which we write it in our
class. We should have our own opinions not always the teachers. If we only copy
a thing again. It just like we don’t learn anything instead of writes the note
in our class. We should express things by using our ownwords.
 
Although I don’t go to the class to teach student but I also give some help to our group member. I
think I should practice the thing we should teach before the class. So it can’t
be so nervous when we are teaching. Because we practice more so we can answer
the question which the other students ask.
 
So I think this training of teaching students teach me a lot.
 
I think that I wasn’t doing very well in the project which was showed to the Grade 10 and the Class 9A. The main reason is that I 
haven’t get really ready for the project. But luckily, I made a good point in the project. It is on of the most important position in China. 
It is about the security in China. I said: “Although China has plenty of food to feed all the citizens in China, but as you guys know, it is 
not very safe, right?” Mr. Manno had told me that it was a really good point by the end of this project. But I have made some progress 
in this project. I didn’t feel nervous when I was standing in front of those students. I think that I have two of the most important 
reasons. One of them is that because of the Public Speaking Classes and Mr. Manno, I have made a lot of progress in Public 
Speaking Classes and having a Speech. The other reason is that I know most of the students which were sitting there. That is a 
good way to improve my relation among the students. 

 
When I saw my score of my group’s presentation is 49/50 I was amazed. I think that our presentation of the ‘trade and economy’ is not very good. And l will tell the reason below.

  When our group finished our Power point we think that when we are having the presentation to the other classes, we will have a wonderful presentation, but when we were having the presentation the time control is not very good. The first part of our topic--- trade and the free trade which is responsible by me took a long time to explain. Before I had the presentation, I thought that the part I responsible will be a good start of our presentation. But, in fact when I was having the presentation, I feel a little nervous so that I speak so fast (I think of myself). And the worst thing is that when I was explaining the ‘trade’, Mr. Ward ask me that why should trade has taxes. When I heard the question, and also my nervous, I did not answer the question correctly. And also with this question, l has wasted much time on this part of this topic.

  Luckily, the other parts of the topic has done very well (it is my own opinion). And our presentation was not very boring and full of actions.

  The ways to improve our presentation are make the time control better, and we should explain the parts of the topic clearly.

  All in all, I think our group’s presentation can do better.

 
     Last week, l have been a teacher, l need to teach Grade 9 and 10 what is international law. In China, l never have this chance to be teacher because we need to do exercises in class and home. Teachers always ask us to read book , to recite words and articles. This make us feel very tired and only know how do test, we don’t know how to be leader, how to become a good speaker. However, in the U.S, High School, l have this chance to work with my classmates, we can teach students together and it is also very interesting. I can learn how to attack students’ attention and how to change ourselves to be fit with the actuality. This can also improve our brain and get more experience for performance. What’s more, this is also a good way to study by ourselves because when we prepare for teaching, we have also learn knowledge by ourselves. If we want to teach students,we need to know about it before, this can make a good teacher. When a teacher don’t know the answer to students’ questions, they can’t give them a wrong answer because this will keep ourself not responsible. Also, this can teach us know how to work together because this is we teach students not only one person. I think it is very helpful to us because we can learn many things that we don’t know from it. 
 
  This is my first time to have a presentation in front of so many strangers. Although they are all my schoolmates, I still feel a little bit nervous. Actually this is a big challenge, we need to prepare a lot of things before we have a presentation, such as: examples for students understanding, questions, notes and even homework. We also should pay attention on time control and power point’s quality. Mr. Andy told us there shouldn’t be too many words on one slide and we can’t just look at the power point. We must use our own words to explain to others without reading the slide or the cards in our hands. I think our group is good at asking question and enlivening the mood. But sometimes we don’t give an good example, or we even do not understand the definition clearly, so we can’t answer teachers’ questions and also sometimes make the students feel confuse. What’s more, our group seldom look at the project, we all can use our own words to explain the definition to the students and most of us are confident. The only thing that I really feel bad is the time control. I think we use 30 minutes but the time we can use is only 25 minutes. We should improve our time control. When you have a presentation, we should leave some time for solving some problems that we can’t foreshadow, such as to answer the teachers’ tricky questions or teach a really confused students. Patient is very important.

  I learnt a lot. To be a teacher is not an easy job. And because of presentation, I understand foreign aid much better, sometimes this kind of activities can help us look for the old so as to learn the new.

 
I think the experience was interesting. It was fun to teach other students and some teachers what we
have learnt. However, I was under pressure because it is hard to make the students understand, also we might make some mistakes.
Our group did well in public speaking skills. All of us spoke loud enough so everybody could hear us.
We didn’t always looking at the screen, we could say things by ourselves. Also, we explained things clearly so that the students could understand quite well. We didn’t make the students confused about the topic. In addition, our group members worked together very well and each of us have the same amount of work to do.
Our group can improve by fix the mistakes in handouts and PPT. There was something wrong in one group member’s speech draft, but we forgot to delete that part in the handouts. The homework handout and answers are incomplete, which is a big mistake. Also, there is something wrong in the PPT, there are a few spelling mistakes in the PPT that we didn’t fix. There are also some words that are not accurate.
During this presentation, I have learnt a lot of things. First, I realized that it is not so easy to give a presentation for other students, it is even more difficult to help them understand. I should say things slowly and clearly and make sure they can follow me. Second, I learnt that how to work with my group members. We should share our ideas, divide works solve problems together and help each other.

My reflection of the project

 I would like to describe about my reflection of the project and what I experienced on the project.

 My position and my task was to describe about decolonization in the world. The project was very monumental thing for me. This is because it was a limited and big chance to improve and change my grades of Civics and Basic CS. I could learn about many things from the subjects. The biggest task of the project was to make the 9A and grade 10 students understand very clearly using suitable information in my presentation with high level techniques or speaking skills that I learned from the subjects very well.

 I was a little bit nervous because of the reason that it was the first time that I presented something very important to all of the students in The U.S. High School. I think that I could give the students much information about my topic that I have learned from Ms. Ku clearly and smoothly using some pictures that are describing about decolonization in the world. I thought that I needed to use attractive and effective techniques to let them understand very well. My way to make the students understand the topic was to describe about “Colonization” or “Colonialism”. My way of thinking was to describe about colonization because I thought that they will not understand about decolonization well if they do not know about colonization. I think that we need to know the beginning of it, how it began. It is like history. I could feel that it is a kind of important reason to learn history. 

 I presented with my group. During I was presenting with the group, I could know that they were using the names of the members of my group to give and show them examples each other. I thought that it was a good point and it was a technique that can make the examples easier to understand for the students. However, I realized that I didn’t give any examples.

 In my opinion, I think that practicing with the members of our group clearly will improve teamwork. We did not be prepared with the members of our own group very clearly and very often, so I thought that if we did that, the presentation would be more attractive. Therefore I think that researching is a kind of monumental thing when we have a presentation such as important speech, but being prepared with the members who will be presenting with us is also very important thing when we have them. I think that those are the reason that we often have discussions making groups in class and in school. That’s the thing I learned about teamwork. 

Jun, you have clearly put some deep thinking in your reflection - great job! I thought you did really well during the presentation. You were able to explain the concepts clearly and maintain the attention of the students. Keep up the good work! 


Ms. Ku

 
The experience is fantastic. And also, I have learned a lot, such as Global Sudy and public speaking skills.
First, we did not have enough time, only about 15 minutes. Thus, we could not finish our presentation completely and perfectly. And my part of handout did not print, due to an unbelievable reason, my windows computer could not connect with Jenny's macbook. I had no idea how to fix it. Nina's and Jerry's are also okay. This is a mistake that I made. We believe that next time we are able to do better.
And in addition, Jerry did a good job when he explained. He used wonderful public speaking skill and let every one understood what he was talking about. It is extremely hard after I tried to teach. I hardly ever thought about how tough to be a teacher. We were supposed to spend a lot of time on handout, powerpoint, asessment and etc. After we were tired enough to prepare lesson, we even had no idea how to teach correctly and easily to understand for them. Then, we were standing in front of students and teachers, I felt anxious and nervous more than excited. Yet, luckily, I have already known the others better than the begining of semester.
What is more? I would like to say thank you, for all the teachers and students from 9A and 10A, especially Ms.Ku, Mr.Andy and my group members. They all helped me a lot, not only the knowlege of Global Study, but also the team spirit. Ms. Ku let us know how necessary the team is by this presentation. And Mr. Andy tought us how to make the powerpoint much more active and easy reading. It is vital to not make audience fall asleep during the presentation. And my group members helped each other. For instance, Jerry had no idea how to explain it in his own words. and we all helped him to find picture to understand the meaning of a vocabulary.
All in all, I really love this opportunity to share what we learned wtih others.

Ms. Ku 
 
Well , last week , Mr.Andy and Ms.Ku gave us an opportunity to be a teacher , in my perspective , I thought it was a great try for us to practice our abilities undoubtedly , such as how to gather and sum up key points , how to make our powerpoint more lively , how to work together  , how to teach others , etc , however , the major purpose for us was to understand what we have learned deeply  . To start with my group , our topic was about " The Modern Nation-State and Power " , every of us did one part  , we divided the work clearly , in order to let students make sense , we tried our best to change words instead of Ms.Ku ' s notes and found out examples and pictures to absorb their eyes , I thought we prepared not bad actually . But unfortunately , our powerpoint did not work eventually .Truth to be told , we needed to improve a lot , firstly , we just repeated definitions , had no questions aboout our topic , secondly , there were lots of students did not understand yet , but we had no time to explain , thirdly , our speaking was so boring that no one would like to pay attention . In addition , this study style made my thoughts of global study more clearly , I have learned that the major two bodies of the UN were The General Assembly and The Security Council Since I have finished this project , I have known how difficult to be a teacher , thus , I will work harder during the studying  Finally, I hope that we have another chance to try again .
