To My Lovely 9B Global Studies Students,

Thank you for your reflections on the presentations! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts and comments. I didn't respond to each of your posts individually, but I want you to know that I appreciate your hard work :)

And...most, or maybe all of you shared that you liked the experience and wanted similar opportunities soon. I'm very happy to be able to say that you will have plenty of chances to engage in public speaking, work in teams, and do research in the 4th quarter, when we launch into Model United Nations. As I told Johnson in class the other day - if you're lucky, you may just get what you ask for!

See you in class!

Ms. Ku

Last friday, we worked on our global study's project and prepared a lot.And finally we gave a presentation to the student's from 9A and 10A. We arranged the handout for them and give them two classes. The class include a variety of knowledge and information about the global issues and organizations. We have a wonderful experience, Teaching other student in our own words is really exciting, but it's our first time to give a public speaking to the whole school, we felt a little bit nevous and under pressure. So we might made some mistakes during the presentatin. I'm so appreciate that so many students ask qustions which they might confused about and also felt pleasant to answer all the question . I suppose that our voice are not loud enough, we need to make sure all the students in the class can hear it clearly. As far as l concerned, we prepared the presentation well and have some cooperations, it improve our friendship. We have discussions during we plan the project. And finished the Powerpoint and handout on time. But we also fell shorts in following aspect. The first thing is our voice and tone, i have already mention this thing before. And the second is the handout, we finished it in a very short time, but the qaulity of the handout is not great. We need to pay more attention to the handout and focus on improve it. We have to pick the significant knowledge and assemble them into some short and simple sentences. it might can help the students understand it better and save time. From this opputunity, i learn that we should prepare perfectly so that it won't have issues, and also we need to check the powerpoint.

This time we do a project about nation-state. We have to do a powerpoint to teach Grade 10 stuents and 9A students. It is not a easy work. First we need to prepare very well because we do not know wht will those students ask. It's so bad if we do not know the answer. Everyone in our group get a part of the project except John. He told us that we ust need to give him the imformation in word. Then he would put whole information into the powerpoint. The information that I had to research in superpower. I asked Ms.Ku about the example of the super power. She gave me lots of suggestions, and also Ellen, Evans and Harry find many details by themselves. I think this is the thing we did well. We were the first group. There are somthing wrong with the powerpoint. The link of different page does not work. This make us feel really confused. We cannot turn into the right page which we want. John told us the reason of it s the typeface he use that the teacher‘s computer does not have. This makes the link does not work as well. I think the thing that we need to improve is make the powerpoint perfect. We should try it in teacher’s computer before the work.

When I knew that we should do the presentation of the social study, I was very worried because Mrs. Ku told us the presentation was 25% of our grade and I didn’t do well in the last quiz. I was a partner of Bill, Angela, Ann and Wendy. They were not very helpful and kind because they gave me two topics in the presentation, capitalism and globalization. At first, I was very angry about that, why should I do 2 jobs? Then, I thought if I do 2 jobs, I would become the leader of group. I found the things about the capitalism and globalization in the notes, but I lost hope because there were only a few words about two topics. It was very difficult for me to finish it. After that, I wanted to ask other people. I asked Mrs. Nancy and many teachers about the capitalism and globalization. Mrs. Nancy gave me a hand and she told me about that the globalization is about the relationships of many countries. Then, I used my own words to explain these topics.
When my group had a speech, Mr. Andy and Mr. Ward asked us many questions and I thought they were too hard and strange to answer them. When I was speaking, I was very nervous because some classmates thought I was not good at speaking. And also, I was very afraid that I would make many mistakes, so this presentation is a try for me. At last, our group succeeded.

I think in this presentation, everyone in 9B did great job.
It's the first time, 9B students teach the Gobal Study Lesson to 9A students and G10 students.
We are new here, we need a opportunity like this presentation,
to show us and make more communicate with other students in USIS.
Every 9B students fully prepared this presentation for almost a week, we hope to get approval.
We were divided into five groups. In my group, there are Angela, Wendy, Bill and Tom.
In our team work, Tom is the leader, we make the clearly PPT and handout let other students understand.
Although we have a little bit nervous, actually I'm too nervous, even felt dizzy after that, we finished our task and get 49 points.
Because my ability is poor, I get the most simple part in the Economic and Trade.
In my Development part, I get help from our group members, Mr.Manno and Miss.Ku, they gave me good advice.
But my voice is too soft, the students behind the classroom cannot hear my words clearly,
after finished the presentation, I go to help them to fill the blanks with handout, I need to improve more.
I learned a lots, through this practice, such as the team work, be confidence, be brave, and be proud of ourselves.
We learn the experience, if we have another chance next time, we can do better.

“What!? A representation!?” I said when I first heard the project…

I was really shocked at that time. Soon I got excited because I haven’t done this kind of project before, it seems interesting, right?  I am in a group with John, Sabrina, Ellen and Evans inn this project.

In a word, I think we did quite well in the project. Although when we standing before many of students in other class, we felt a little nervous,(To be honest, we are very nervous…) we still expressed what we planed.  I think we prepared a lot for the project, especially John, he did all the PPT himself. Maybe there are a few mistakes in the PPT, I still think John is our hero~! We get 41 for our project, it is not the highest, but we are proud of ourselves!!Next time we can do better!!

Ok ,there is also somewhere we mess up… We didn’t control the representation very well, so that many students wanted to ask questions but we have no time to explain. And also, our tone is just like a straight line, we put little tiny emotion into the representation… Our audiences may feel our speech is boring. Mr. Manno must be angry for that…

I think next time we can focus on both speech skills and the content of our representation. We can explain the knowledge more patient and give audiences more time to take the notes down And we need to learn to make our representation more lively so that our audiences will be attracted by our speaking, for example, play a game if there is enough time.

I learnt a lot from this experience. The most important is to cooperate with partners. We can’t do anything by ourselves, we need to trust our teammates and work together.

That’s all~

I think I don't do very well with my presentation, because I don't give the students of 10 grade and 9A enough examples to make them understand. I take charge of two parts, disarmament and arms control, because Drew didn't come that day. I know less about disarmament then arms control, so when I talk about disarmament, I always need to read the notes, maybe I should review it yesterday. Actually I think this experience is very useful, because I never talked in front of so many people, and it is very special to me. I can learn to be brave during this presentation. I think my group did well on our PPT. Everyone made different parts of the presentation and made it become together at last. We all join the process of making this colorful PPT, and everyone did a good job. If our group can practice this presentation more before it began, it will be better, because when we talked near the whiteboard, I felt nervous. Maybe all the group members felt nervous too. We should speak louder, shouldn't we? Then the students that listened to us can hear us more and understand more. In this presentation, I learn that everything should be prepared yesterday and practice more. All of us should be brave and have a deep breath before the presentation. I also learn that we should really for everything that happen suddenly, just like the questions they ask. You will never know what questions they are going to ask, all the things you can do is to understand what you have to say and remember it. Then we can give the answers to our “students” more correctly.

I think I didn't do well in this presentation because of my voice. Well, my voice is too small, I know that, but I just can't speak loudly in front of so many students and teachers. I was shy and nervous during that time. The team before us didn't control their time so our team's time was pressing. I prepared some examples to explain my topic, but I didn't have time to talk about it. This experience was not good for me because my voice was too small, I could not sure if everyone in the classroom can hear me, but I think the students at the back could not hear me clearly. Our team's PPT was nice. Mr. Andy said that there could not be too many words on the PPT so our team members didn't put many words on it. I think our team should practice more because before we gave the presentation, we seldom talk with each other about our own part of the presentation. We need to practice more. I learned that when I speak to others, I must speak loudly so that everyone can hear me. Then if we have teamwork, the team members should practice more and check the PPT before we start the presentation. Although I didn't do well in this presentation, I had experience about how to have a presentation and the importance of teamwork. I think giving the 9A students and 10A students homework was fun. I hope I will do better next time. Thank you.

All right, all of us have finished our SOCIAL Study project, and
our team has got 43 points. I don’t know this marks is high or low, but I think
I have learn something about this project. First, I have go over my lessons.
When we make the PPT, we can still go over our lessons. This is all so a chance
that to understand things we don’t know on the lessons. We all think about that
Ms. Ku speak too fast and we have no time to take notes and something we can’t
understand. By this project, we can learn things by our classmates’ project.
Second, this is a chance that to learn how to teach during a class(and can give
them homework o (∩_∩)o ), and I think I have make some good
points, such as make the project interesting, make a good example and have good
public speaking point. But I think I speak a quite quick because of that we
don’t have enough time!!!! And my group member also have to improve something,
such as Nina must speak more loud . Although we haven’t got enough time, but all
of us have finish our project. That’s good!

Last week we did a presentation about modern nation-states. And we use almost a week to research and make the power point. And we give them the presentation on Tuesday. But there are something terrible happened when we show them the presentation. There seemed something wrong to the power point, the issue of the fronts made a big mess, which made the links fly to wrong place, so the links don’t work. Hum…so bad. But we also get experience from that. At least, we know that we need to go to the place earlier, because no one knows what will happen. We need time to do something about the accident.

And then, for me, the nicest part of the project is everyone gets his own job and researches the information and made the power point together. In fact we also met a huge problem in that part. Harry didn’t come in the first week. So we had to finish his part of work in Monday so that we only had a short time to prepare with his part. But luckily, our group members are all very friendly and kind; we helped each other during the difficult time. That makes us finish the presentation.

Although we still have got many problems need to solve in this time’s project but I think it’s the first time for us to do this kind of project, and we can get experience from that. And this can help us do much better in the future, and of course, I have confident to do better.
