Honorable chair and fellow delegates, good morning.
The delegation of Canada feels that more and more people are living unhealthier while the quality of life is improving. 65% of people among the world are overweight and they are facing many kinds of diseases caused by obesity, such as heart disease, high blood pressure etc. Canada wishes countries work together to help their citizens to prevent obesity. In 2003, the United States has passed a law that bans schools to have machines that sales snacks and drinks. Canada requests member states of UN could raise a solution for
controlling of food energy taken by people and promoting regular physical exercises, especially for developed countries. Moreover, these measures should also be enforced by schools for teenagers. Canada hopes WHO could lead the cooperation with UN member countries on this issue and also introduce the same good practices to applicable populations of developing counties. If no immediate
actions been taken now, the issue of obesity will soon spread wider then become a threat to human’s health.
Thank you.
